Indian textile industry contributes ~2% to the national GDP accounting for ~4% of the global trade in textiles and apparel. About 168 designated textile units in India together account for ~2.71 MTOE of energy consumption, ~9.27 MTCO2e of emissions and offer an energy-saving potential of 0.234 MTOE. Leading textile industries in India have announced several energy efficiency initiatives as part of their decarbonisation and net-zero commitments. Given this, a one-day sectoral workshop on “Best Practices in Energy Efficiency & Decarbonisation in Textile Sector” was organized on 8th December 2022 under ASPIRE programme at Raymond Ltd. (Chhindwara, India). During the workshop, stakeholders deliberated on various best practices and technology interventions required to accelerate the decarbonisation of the textile sector, which is both resource and energy intensive. Amongst the various innovative and new-age global technologies presented during the workshop, Alchemie’s waterless smart dyeing and finishing technology were identified by stakeholders as one of the potential solutions for reducing industrial energy consumption. Alchemie Technologies (Alchemie) is a UK-based technology company with a mission to transform the textile industry with clean-tech digital manufacturing solutions that eliminate the environmental impact of polluting textile processes. Its digital approach to textile dyeing and finishing enables a step towards sustainability.

About Coomtech Technology

Coomtech has developed a sustainable way to dry bulk raw material which results in up to a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions and energy costs. Coomtech’s innovative and modular Kinetic Driers remove surface moisture by shearing the water from particle surfaces, keeping the air and moisture separate from the dried particles which go to storage, transport or directly into processing. The ready-mix, precast, and cement manufacturing industries can all benefit downstream from lower energy use, costs, and CO2 emissions. Coomtech is currently developing potential projects from pilot to full-scale drying plants in places from the UK and Europe to the USA by collaborating with businesses at various levels in the cementitious industry supply and manufacturing chain.

About iDeeksha

Industrial Decarbonization and Energy Efficiency Knowledge Sharing Platform (iDeeksha), formerly known as ‘Knowledge Exchange Platform’ is a joint initiative of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) under the Accelerating Smart Power and Renewable Energy (ASPIRE) Programme. The purpose of this Knowledge Sharing Platform (KSP) is to promote Industrial Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation (IEED) measures through sharing of best practices and sectoral learnings. ASPIRE programme is a bilateral programme, being implemented by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Government of UK in association with the Ministry of Power (MoP) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.
